The MOD and Cyber Essentials

Any supplier bidding for a contract that involves the transfer of MOD identifiable information needs to be Cyber Essentials certified.

The minister for Digital and Culture Matt Hancock recently attended the cyber security conference Institute for Directors. In his speech he said "I mentioned the Government already requires many of its suppliers to hold a Cyber Essentials certificate. We’ll be strengthening this requirement to ensure even more of our contractors take up the scheme."

What defence experts say about Cyber Essentials

"Cyber Essentials provides the foundation for good cyber security. It demonstrates that an organisation is doing the simple things well and means they are likely to be able to prevent a lot of attacks being successful. It is also the basis for the Defence specific Cyber Security Model which will follow later this year."
Daniel Selman, Deputy Head of Cyber Security, MOD, 27/04/16
